Conference: The importance of pacing yourself for the long run.

Antoine Bisson, CTO of successful startup Poka and one of our amazing speakers at CONTINUUM 2019, talks about the value of Just Saying No!

In a startup, this may be your best way to promote velocity and the creation of value. He states three potential pitfalls you can easily avoid by doing less.

He is an avid promoter of using best of breed solutions from Cloud providers. If a SaaS platform provides functionalities that cover 80% of your use case, you MUST use it instead of rolling out your own. You should also phase out legacy implementations for new 3rd party alternatives to remove the costs of maintenance and provide accelerated innovation opportunities.

Alexandre also favors what currently works. Don't migrate your 'old' but technical-debt-free Java backend to NodeJS, to stay trendy. Instead, use a more recent runtime to create new features and value. He is careful about 'Shiny New Things,' which often come with hidden ramp-up and operational costs.

In a quite personal section of his talk, Alex shares with founders and CEO the importance of pacing yourself for the long run. Say no to the 60 hours week. An equilibrium between personal and professional lives is mandatory for your success.

Thank you, Alex, for your incisive and often personal insights.
